London Ops recommendation

Significantly amended proposals are recommended to be accepted to resolve the London Operations dispute.

Proposals previously tabled have been significantly amended at a meeting yesterday (18 July) with management to include:

  • The right to refuse duty longer than 12 hours.
  • Additional payments for hours over 12.
  • Consolidation of previous short term acting payments.
  • Travel time and mileage calculated as elsewhere in the BBC.
These proposals are in response to industrial action which has been carried out since March across London Operations. This action is to be suspended from 0001 on Monday 23 July 2001 whilst members are balloted on the new proposals.

The new conditions and travel proposals will come into force on 21 July 2001 on an initial basis, and will be continued if the ballot of members indicates approval. A similar ballot result will also enable implementation of the other elements of the proposals.

All of the proposals cover staff in London Operations areas:

  • Studios
  • Post Production
  • Graphics
  • Technical Services
  • Television and Radio OBs
Full details of the proposals can be found on the main BECTU site

Please not that the travel proposals do not include Elstree, where current arrangements will continue to apply.

Also note that the ERR figures previously tabled have been amended due to recalculation, and that:

  • ERR consolidation will be at minimum level of £75 per individual in the categories covered.
  • Consolidation will be implemented after the proposed promotions have taken place, and those promoted will not receive consolidation.
  • ERR consolidation will include those proposed to be carrying out permanent acting promotion and 50% acting promotion.
  • Any staff on SFS (Special Fixed Salary) conditions will not receive ERR consolidation since they have not be eligible for ERR.
Members with any queries on the proposals should contact the Branch as soon as possible.
