Res Bank Holiday review

Scheduling for the past three Bank Holidays in Resources has been reviewed.

BECTU and local management have met to review in detail the scheduling of UPA2 staff in Resources Post Production and Studios based at Television Centre.

At the conclusion of the review management agreed to apply the revised approach, originally proposed by ESPG, to future Bank Holidays that has been used for the previous three public holidays.

It has also been agreed to issue a short note to clarify the revised approach to all concerned, particularly to those involved in scheduling staff.

The past three Bank Holidays were reviewed:

  • Easter (18-21 April)
  • May (5 May)
  • Whitsun (26 May)
The union produced an analysis of the percentage of UPA2 staff they did not consider to be correctly scheduled in line with the revised approach that has been applied to the last three Bank Holidays:

UPA2 staff incorrectly scheduled
Department Easter May Whitsun
Post Production 20% 4% 1%
Studios 18% 18% 14%

It should be pointed out that the May and Whitsun workload in Post Production was very light.

A note will be issued to all staff clarifying the revised approach to future Bank Holidays for UPA2 staff in Post Production and Studios.

This will include the agreement that those involved in staff scheduling will try their best to concentrate duties over the smallest teams possible, after taking into consideration holiday requirements already committed to and continuity requirements. Additionally management will also try to ensure a fair distribution of such duties over the year.

Additionally it was agreed to avoid scheduling RDs (Release from duty days or PHL on Public Holiday) on actual Bank Holidays days when staff are scheduled to work over the associated weekend.

In view of the new approach to Bank Holiday scheduling the original formal Failure to Agree has been concluded.

The Branch will monitor future Bank Holiday scheduling, and will continue to receive detailed allocations data from management relevant to these periods.

Members with concerns over staff scheduling on Bank Holidays should email bectuespg@yahoo.co.uk or contact any ESPG Committee member with details.
