Studio Supervisors proposal

Revised numbers of Supervisory level posts in Studios have been tabled by management.

These have been tabled following the union/management meeting that took place in December following industrial action carried out by members across London Operations.

The proposals have been tabled 'to reduce the requirement for short term acting' - such ERR is currently not being worked as part of industrial action to oppose London Operations local conditions changes and enforced redundancies. It is expected similar proposals will be made for OBs and Post Production shortly.

However these proposals have not been discussed yet with management and therefore the detailed process that has resulted in the numbers tabled is not known.

It was expected talks would have taken place following the December meeting to jointly examine the level of acting across London Operations before any proposals where tabled - unfortunately this did not take place.

It is hoped a meeting will be arranged shortly with London Operations management to discuss the proposals. Concern has already been expressed by the union about the concept of 'permanent acting promotion'.

The proposals have been presented in table form:

Notes:

  • Studio Engineering figures include GCEs, SSEs, and SREs

  • 'Pre Oakland' refers to staffing levels before the London Operations proposals were tabled last year.

  • 'Oakland core level' refers to the staffing levels from 1 April 2001 following the reductions arising from the London Operations proposals.

  • 'Suggested compromise numbers' refers to staffing levels management are proposing for the future.
The following note accompanied the proposal: "Where it refers to 50% acting this is where people consistently act up for half the accounting period and we would be happy to promote them on an acting basis and their acting salary reflect that they are only working at the higher level for 50% of the year".
